I started this piece off by creating a Mixed Media Piece in response to John Hoyland and Kurt Schwitters. I wanted the piece to have some dimension so i added a cardboard circle (Center of a roll of tape) and placed some corrugated card on top that was stained red/orange with ink, i chose these colours to stand out against the cool/calm background and also because when i thing of Mars the colours Red and Orange come to mind.There is also a red, orange and yellow splatter this was created whilst i was covering the circular piece of card with ink, i included this as it seemed to work well with my composition idea.
If you didn't already notice, this piece is in response to David Bowies Life on Mars.
I wanted the composition to be simple like some of John Hoylands work. I added the text to the top left, this was because i wanted to balance out the composition. I chose the type face that was created using watercolour, fineliner and water because the font style is simple.
This piece may be improved in the next few months when i gather some found materials to link with Mary Bogdan.
